How To Fix “Script Call Failed” Error in Sims 4 (Easy Fix)

Have trouble with that annoying “Script Call Failed” message that pops up in red?

Find out what you can do and how to fix this error in a few steps by reading on.

What is “Sims 4 Script Call Failed” Error?

One of the most common problems in Sims 4 is “Script Call Failed.” It’s a red message that pops up after you place something from build/buy.

If you’ve ever seen it on your screen, you know how annoying it can be. But if you’ve never seen it before, it looks like a red bubble that says “Script Call Failed.”

It shows up when you try to use your custom content, like a bed, kitchen counter, tree, or piece of clothing.

“Script Call Failed” is so annoying because it means we can’t use one of our mods or custom content.

It shows up when one or more of your mods/cc files is broken, corrupted, or just not working right now.

How to Fix “Sims 4 Script Call Failed”?

Script Call Failed

CC files often stop working because there are no updates or something similar. To fix the “Script Call Failed” error, you will need to fix or delete the mods/cc file that is causing the problem.

This can be done in different ways:

  1. Repair Your Game Files
  2. Turning off mods and custom content is a good way to test them.
  3. Your Electronic Arts Documents folder needs to be backed up.
  4. Fix any broken mods or CC
  5. Put the Game back on.

Repair Your Game Files

If you’re having trouble with “Script Call Failed” in Sims 4, you should first try to fix your game files. The idea is to restore the one file that’s causing this error. But it’s hard to find that one file, so it’s best to do a basic fix.

Open Origin and click on My Game Library to fix your Sims 4 game files. Right-click on The Sims 4 in your list of games. Then you should choose Repair. The Origin client will start fixing your game files on its own. Depending on your PC, the process could take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. You start the game again when it’s done.

Here’s what you need to do to fix your game files if you use Steam instead.

Open Steam and go to your Steam Library to fix game files and stop Script Call Failed from coming up again. Find The Sims 4 and click Properties. Then go to Local Files and click on Verify Integrity of Game Files. Again, the process should start on its own and take care of the problem.

Play Sims 4 Without Mods and CC

Sims 4 gets new versions often. This means that every time you update the game or add a new pack, mod, or CC, the ones you were using before could become out of date and incompatible, especially if you don’t update them often enough, and you could see the message “Script Call Failed.”

Then, these mods can cause errors in the game, like the “script call fail” error, making the game less fun and more trouble. This could be the case if you started getting the error right after you updated the Sims 4.

So, go to your game and turn them off to see if you can play without them. Go to Game Options > Other > Uncheck the box next to Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed (uncheck the box).

Apply your changes, and then start the game up again to see if the error still shows up. If it doesn’t, the problem is no longer there. You can play the game and won’t get the script call failed error, but you won’t be able to use your mods and CC until you fix and update them.

To do this, you need to Backup Your Electronic Arts Documents Folder and/or Repair Your Broken Mods/CC to fix your broken mods and back up your Electronic Arts folder.

How to Backup Your Electronic Arts Documents Folder

If you have turned off your mods and CC, the best thing you can do now is make sure that the script call failed error won’t come up again. To do this, you’ll need to make a copy of your Electronic Arts folder, delete it, and start over with your mods (if you want to keep using them).

First, change the name of your original Electronic Arts folder to make it stand out (e.g.. Electronic Arts Old). Make sure you are online when you open Origin. You’ll know you’re online if you have the “Go Offline” option in the Origin drop-down menu.

Go to My Game Library, right-click on The Sims 4, and choose “Repair” from the drop-down menu. Start your game once the repair is done. You will need to go to Game Options > Other and check if script mods and custom content are turned on. If they aren’t, check the two boxes (Script Mods Allowed and Enable Custom Content and Mods), click Apply Changes to confirm the action, and then quit the game.

Now, if you go back to the Documents folder, you’ll see two folders: Electronic Arts Old, which is our old folder with a new name, and Electronic Arts, which wasn’t there before you quit the game. This should fix the Script Call Failed error, so it won’t show up again.

But you will notice that there are no mod files in the Mod folder of this new version of the Electronic Arts folder. If you want to keep using CC and Mods, go to this newly created Electronic Arts folder and update your CC and Mods. This means you have to download them again and check for updates by hand.

This is going to take a while, especially if you had a lot of mods before. Unzip your newly downloaded Mods and put them in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.

Don’t touch or paste anything into Electronic Arts Old. You could also just fix your broken mods and CC.

Repair Your Broken Mods/CC

If you want to keep playing with your mods and CC, you need to fix them so that you don’t get the message “Script Call Failed.”

If you don’t want to start from scratch, you can still use your old mods from the Electronic Arts Old folder you made when you renamed your Electronic Arts folder. Then you can only delete and replace the mods that cause the Script Call Failed error.

You can try to do it by hand, or you can use one of the mods that look for bad content. We’ll talk about both. This guide will tell you in detail how to get rid of broken CC and mods in Sims 4.

Watch the tutorial below to get rid of broken cc in your game.

But here’s what you need to know for now.

  • Manual repair: This is a hard way to figure out which mods need to be fixed. You’ll need to move files from Electronic Arts Old> The Sims 4> Mods to the Electronic Arts> The Sims 4> Mods folder. Make sure to copy in small batches, start the game, put the furniture where you want it, and see if the error happens. For example, if you need to copy, you could copy up to 10 mods and CC and then start the game to see if any of the 10 mods and CC you just copied cause problems. Repeat the process every time you copy and paste, and keep track of what you are copying so that if you get an error again, you know where to look. It’s important to copy only a few files at a time. If you copy a lot of files at once, it will be harder to figure out which one is causing the problem.
  • Repair with mods. Repairing by hand might work if you only have a few CC mods installed, but if you have a lot of mods, this will take a long time. This is where detector mods and apps can help you find files that could be causing the Script Call Failed error. There are two programmes, Trey Importer and Better Exceptions Mod, that can help you scan for and find broken files.

Trey Importer will tell you which mod or custom content is causing the problem, so you can just delete it.

And this also fixes the mistake. You can download the Trey Importer tool for Sims 4 by clicking here.

Or you could use the Better Exceptions Mod, which does the same thing and helps you find broken mods and CC so you can fix them or get rid of them.

Reinstall The Game (Last Solution)

If none of the other solutions worked to fix the “Script Call Failed” error, you’ll need to reinstall the game.

Reinstalling the game is difficult and takes a long time, especially if your computer or internet connection is slow. But if you want to play your favorite game, you have to do it.

It’s best to start from scratch, but if you don’t want to lose your progress, you should keep your save files until you’re ready to start over. You can also get a save file from another player, so there’s that.

I’m sure that at least one of these ideas will work for you. There are different ways to fix the “Script Call Failed” error, depending on which file is causing it.

You can always clean your registry or just delete your mods and CC, but these three methods have been shown to work.

Good luck!
